At your first prenatal visit, your physician may order some blood tests. These tests may include:
- Blood pressure reading
- Urine tests (eg, to detect urinary tract infection, protein in the urine, and signs of gestational diabetes)
- Lab analysis for infections, such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and group B streptococcal disease
- Blood tests for:
- Blood type and Rh factor
- Sexually transmitted diseases
- Antibodies for rubella
- Hereditary diseases like cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, Tay-Sachs disease, and thalassemia
Women's & Children's Hospital offers convenient outpatient lab services located on the first floor of the Kids Specialty Center. Simply bring your order form from your physician, no appointment is needed.
Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
