LAFAYETTE, La. – Women’s & Children’s Hospital, a campus of The Regional Medical Center of Acadiana, recently received additional national accreditation for the quality radiology services it offers Acadiana families.
The hospital, 4600 Ambassador Caffery Parkway, volunteered to undergo a rigorous review by the American College of Radiology. ACR awarded the hospital’s efforts with a three-year accreditation for Ultrasound services.
Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal body parts to help providers diagnose illness, injury, or other medical problems.
The department also recently received ACR accreditation for Computed Tomography (CT), sometimes called a CAT scan, Positron Emission Tomography (PET scans), Nuclear Medicine and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, of the neck, head and spine.
“When patients see the ACR gold seal, they can rest assured that their prescribed imaging test will be done at a facility that has met the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety,” said Raleigh White, Radiology Department Director for Women’s & Children’s Hospital.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
