Jamie Schexnayder, a nursing student at LSU-Eunice entering her senior year this fall, is the recipient of the second annual Women’s & Children’s Memorial Scholarship.
Women’s & Children’s Hospital and representatives from the Community Foundation of Acadiana presented the scholarship award to Schexnayder in a ceremony held Wednesday, July 11 at the hospital.
The Women’s & Children’s Hospital Memorial Scholarship, a fund of the Community Foundation of Acadiana, was created to memorialize employees who left us way too soon, but whose contributions to the culture of care at Women’s & Children’s Hospital will never be forgotten. It provides funding for educational expenses of eligible students entering their senior year in the nursing program at UL Lafayette, South Louisiana Community College or LSU-E. The one-time, single scholarship award of $500 is awarded each fall semester.
Student applicants must have graduated high school from one of the 14 parishes in the Women's & Children's Hospital service area including Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Calcasieu, Evangeline, Iberia, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, Rapides, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Vermilion and Vernon parishes.
Applicants must submit:
- An official transcript (the latest available/from first semester of junior year);
- A letter from the applicant outlining why nursing is important to them;
- A letter of recommendation from the student’s department of nursing; and
- A listing of any past or current scholarship awards.
