Women and Infant Care Links
Once Your Stay Is Complete
Before you take your baby home, our postpartum nursing staff and your obstetrician will give you some written and verbal instructions on how you should care for yourself during the postpartum period, and make sure that check-up visits for both you and your baby are scheduled.
Car Seat Safety
Louisiana law requires that all children under the age of 13 use an appropriate child restraint system, which for infants means an age and size appropriate car seat. Prior to the birth of your baby, install the car seat in the car and practice getting baby in and out.
Check your car owner’s manual for specific information about installing the car seat correctly in your vehicle. You must secure your baby in the car seat before leaving Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
The W.H.A.L.E. (We Have A Little Emergency) program is an identification and education program for parents with children still riding in car or booster seats.
Sponsored through Women’s & Children’s Hospital, the W.H.A.L.E. program provides vital information about your child that results in a more efficient child identification effort by emergency personnel in the event of a car crash. In many cases, children are too young to identify themselves, or their caregivers may be injured and unresponsive.
Having vital information about your child’s identity, special needs and emergency contact information assists emergency personnel and hospital team members in meeting your child’s needs in the event of an emergency.
Parents of each child born at Women’s & Children’s Hospital receive a free W.H.A.L.E. kit upon discharge. Call 337-521-9172 today for more information about the program or to order additional kits, which are provided at no cost.
